Health Risks of Flooding in the Gulf Coast Region - A Training Module for Community Members

OVERVIEW 
Floods are the most common type of natural disaster and account for 40-50% of all disasters and disaster-related deaths. The purpose of this free training module is to provide information on flood-related hazards and the health impacts of floods, with a focus on the US Gulf Coast. The module will review how to reduce hazards and how to recognize health effects.  It will also provide resources for further information.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Individuals living in the Gulf Coast region, individuals living in flood-prone areas, members of community organizations, employees of non-profit organizations

SPONSORS AND FUNDING
The Gulf Region Health Outreach Program was developed jointly by BP and the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee as part of the Deepwater Horizon Medical Benefits Class Action Settlement, which was approved by the U.S. District Court in New Orleans on January 11, 2013 and made effective on February 12, 2014.  The Outreach Program is supervised by the court and is funded with $105 million from the Medical Settlement.
